“Hungry Dogs Run Faster”, and that’s exactly the methodology behind ‘So Much For Second Chances’ – SoSo’s debut album, consisting of tracks written over the last 24 months. An album that showcases the band’s change in attitude from a local pop-punk group to a band that is stepping up to the plate and honing their underdog mentality to make enormous waves in the Australian alternative scene.
The album, produced by Stevie Knight (Yours Truly, Stand Atlantic, Between You & Me) showcases evolved song writing outside of the expected, with tracks laden with melodic, pop vocal hooks, heavy use of samples, synths and production, while still staying true to SoSo’s unique style and character.
May 8th saw the LP cycle start with debut single Oxytocin, and now the band are set to release their next single Messed Up.
Frontman Rhys Weeks talks about the inspiration behind Messed Up: “Lyrically, the track is about opening up to someone when you kind of knew deep down that you shouldn’t, then having it thrown back at you by their actions. The kinda toxic relationship where you’ve created an idea of what your life with that person would look like, rather than seeing the relationship for what it was from the start – and having to mourn not only the end of the relationship, but also the end of whatever future you thought you might have seen for yourself and having to reset your outlook for your future.”
Traditionally an overlooked band when it comes to their peers, SoSo have taken matters into their own hands and are betting on themselves. With a direct deal with distro powerhouse ‘Believe’, and teaming up with Capital Artist Group (Issues, Michael Shuman of QOTSA) for MGMT, the band are poised and ready to make their bold prediction of a NUMBER 1 RECORD a true reality.
“We’re going to turn heads” says SoSo frontman Rhys, “We’re going to be the band that goes against the grain and pushes back on the traditional way of doing things. By keeping ownership of our music, self funding and self promoting our debut LP AND GUARANTEEING a Number 1 Record, we’re convinced that we can show independent bands that you don’t need to sign away your rights to be successful.”
