Pop-punk powerhouses Teenage Joans bite back with new single Coming Up From Hell.
Following their latest track Bandits, the Adelaide duo unleash fury with razor-sharp riffs and confessional lyrics, tearing down the curtain on their unapologetic new chapter. Ripping up their sonic rulebook, Coming Up From Hell sees the band ditch their comfort zone, experimenting with heavier textures and lyrical threads, cutting straight to the heart of the battles that have shaped them.
Teenage Joans share what Coming Up From Hell means to them. “The track is a glimpse into the new world we’ve been creating musically. The song came about hoping to create a bursting-out track – we wanted it to be fast, punchy, and most importantly let everyone know we’re back and not playing around.
We experimented quite a bit with the instrumentation in our newer sound, hoping to show our maturity a bit more through the compositions this time alongside the lyrics. The song is about our journey as artists in the modern world, it’s quite tongue in cheek, but the concept of hell is all the battles we’ve been through to be where we are, and we’ll do whatever it takes – even speak to the devil himself!”
With recent releases My Heart’s Dead! and Bandits under their belt, the duo will be taking their mosh-ready anthems to the UK for a headline tour and festival appearances at Liverpool’s Sound City and Brighton’s Great Escape in May. They also recently shared stages across Australia with iconic UK rockers Biffy Clyro and US pop punk favourites Hot Mulligan. Heading up Sydney and Brisbane in September, they’ll be supporting the legendary Violent Soho on their comeback tour.
Bursting onto the scene in 2020, taking out the triple j Unearthed high crown and making their Hottest 100 debut, Teenage Joans’ trajectory was fast. Their 2021 debut EP ‘Taste of Me’ won a record breaking 7 awards at the 2021 SAM Awards and landed the duo another spot in the Hottest 100. The highly anticipated 2023 debut album ‘The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest’ was recognised with 7 ARIA chart appearances and an ARIA nomination for ‘Best Heavy Album’ in 2024. They’ve also taken home SA Music Awards’ ‘Best Punk Artist’ in 2022 and 2023 along with ‘Best Group’ and ‘Most Popular Punk Artist’ in 2024.
Going from strength to strength, Teenage Joans have spent the last few years on tour around Australia and the US with the likes of Foo Fighters, Sleeping With Sirens, Sum 41, Noahfinnce, PUP, Slowly Slowly, Amy Shark, Pale Waves, Ball Park Music, The Chats and many more as well as selling out multiple national headline tours. They’ve also hit a stack of festival stages including Good Things, Unify, SXSW Austin, Leeds Festival, Harvest Rock, Splendour In The Grass, Groovin the Moo, Laneway Festival and Spin Off with many more to come.
