Irish post-punk band The Murder Capital have unveiled their highly anticipated third album ‘Blindness’. The album arrives ahead of their first Australian tour, kicking off in March 2025.
Charged with momentum, ‘Blindness’ is an 11-track offering of intimate yet expansive songs. After a massive season of touring, the band found themselves exhausted but eager to get into the studio and create something prioritising urgency, energy and freshness.
Overcoming creative differences in pre-production, the conflict served as a positive blood-letting, allowing the band move forward as a unified front reaching for the same desire. The album was brought to life over three weeks in LA alongside GRAMMY Award-winning producer John Congleton who previously worked with the band on their critically acclaimed release ‘Gigi’s Recovery’.
Featuring recently released tracks Can’t Pretend To Know, Words Lost Meaning, The Fall and A Distant Life, ‘Blindness’ introduces us to seven brand new tracks.
Lead vocalist James McGovern dives into the deeper meaning of the album saying, “There’s what’s in front of us, in our immediate field of vision. There are the things we can touch, the love we can feel. Then there’s everything else. Blindness is the warped belief. The behind us. The secluded. Love at a distance. Faith in denial. Distorted patriotism. The fading face of moments in the rear view. Blindness brings it all into focus.”
“When we sat down to figure out what the album was about, we ended up with three broadly sweeping themes: faith and patriotism through the lens of Irishness, love songs and dissecting relationships, and more introspective looks at things like addiction and mental illness.”
Recently wrapping their tour with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds across Europe, The Murder Capital will be heading to Australia and New Zealand next March before embarking on a headline tour of the UK and EU.
Heading down under in March 2025, The Murder Capital will be kicking things off at Wellington’s San Fran and Tuning Fork in Auckland before playing a string of dates across Australia in April 2025. The five-piece band will be heading to The Corner Hotel in Melbourne, The Brightside in Brisbane and Sydney’s Crowbar before wrapping things up at The Rosemount in Perth.
