The new single and title track of The Smith Street Band’s forthcoming sixth album, ‘Life After Football’ is out today with the news the album will land November 25th.

The song was penned after lead singer Wil Wagner escaped a â€œonce in a lifetime” storm at the band’s studio. â€œI woke up around 5am to the sound of a tree hitting the roof and from the back deck I watched huge, ancient gums and blackwoods fall in rows all through the forest that had previously been such a source of calm. It got to the point that trees were falling every other minute and I felt like I had to get out” said Wagner of the experience.

“We’ve all survived the storm (COVID), we’ve all endured this once in a lifetime event and when you’re enduring that you don’t think about what’s next. Now we are living in what’s next and it’s weird and unfamiliar and a lot of the safety nets we thought would be there didn’t catch us. Because nobody thinks about life after football.”

‘Life After Football’ was recorded by the band’s bass player Michael “Fitzy” Fitzgerald at the band’s studio in regional Victoria, mixed by Anton Hagop (Silverchair, Powderfinger, Missy Higgins) and mastered by George Georgidias. Featuring singles I Don’t Wanna Do Nothing Forever and Everyone Is Lying To You For Money the new album follows on from the bands most recent studio release ‘Don’t Waste Your Anger’ which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart.

The band collaborated with Melbourne based artist Kate Birell who painted the artwork for the album cover, of which there will be a limited vinyl pressing with alternative art by Will Johnstone.
