Fresh off the back of recent singles Ribbons and Pocket Money, Meanjin/Brisbane indie-rock outfit Tomorrow’s Forecast are today proud to reveal their sophomore EP, ‘Speaking Terms’ – a six-track cold plunge into a world of heartbreak, mixed emotions and the oddly humorous task of bouncing back into the dating world.

Produced with Emily Hopley at Hunting Ground Studios, the EP shifts the band’s dynamic sound into heavier territory, blending angsty garage-rock with vulnerable lyricism that cuts to the core. For ‘Speaking Terms’, the band exclusively collaborated with female and gender-diverse creatives to build a body of work that aligns with their values of supporting a diverse industry.

“Each song on the EP tells different perspectives of relationships – ending, or just beginning,” explain the band. “It is our most experimental body of work, showcasing energetic, garage-rock tracks along with raw, vulnerable storytelling.”

Featuring the heart-swelling hope of February single Ribbons and the raw, grunge-infused rhythms of most recent release, Pocket Money, ‘Speaking Terms’ draws inspiration from artists like Beabadoobee all the way to the fierce nature of Bikini Kill.

Focus track When Won’t I Dream Of You is a tense, gloomy reflection of the frustration that follows a break up and the sour aftertaste that sometimes feels impossible to shake. It stands as one of the band’s most defiant moments and a deeply reflective way to close their sophomore release.

“I wrote this when I was 18 and fresh off a breakup. I had finally started to get over it all when I started having dreams about my ex where everything was back to normal between us,” confesses vocalist Bonnie. “I’d wake up feeling frustrated that I had to go through the process of getting over him all over again. This song became an outlet for me to let out all my anger about the relationship.”

To celebrate the release, Tomorrow’s Forecast will take ‘Speaking Terms’ across the country for a series of shows across the East Coast before wrapping up with homecoming gigs in Brisbane and Gold Coast. Having already lit up stages alongside Holy Holy and Full Flower Moon Band and now with their most fearless release yet, Tomorrow’s Forecast is sunnier and clearer than ever.
