WORM GIRLZ Announce Debut Album With Dark New Single ‘Seventeen’

Holding people accountable for their toxic behaviour. Breaking down the walls of internalised shame. Fiercely advocating for the queer community. These are just a handful of the qualities that Meanjin alt-rock outfit Worm Girlz possess along with their ability to write searing, infectious music laced with flair and dramatic harmonies. Continuing the incredible momentum that has seen them tour nationally for most of 2025, the band now return with new single Seventeen and the announcement of their upcoming debut album.

Seventeen is brooding and brave, bubbling beneath the surface with a rage that eventually spills over. Written from a deeply personal perspective, the track boldly delves into the “harmful impacts of predatory behaviour and imbalanced power dynamics,” according to vocalist Lauren.

“This is a widespread issue, but also one that is prominent in the Australian music scene, with stories too frequently shared of musicians abusing their status to manipulate underage or vulnerable fans,” Lauren adds.

Set to be followed by a music video the band won as part of triple J Unearthed’s NIDA competition, Seventeen serves as some of Worm Girlz most scathing yet vulnerable releases to date. The song bides its time building tension, perfectly capturing the difficulty in retelling such a painful and impacting situation. By the third act, it is impossible not to feel the band’s collective frustration. Seventeen is not the first time Worm Girlz have pointed the finger at predatory behaviour and the anger bursting through every lyric makes it brutally clear: they are sick of having to say it.

Having already lit up stages at BIGSOUND and Laneway Festival, the band today also announce the release of their self-titled debut album – due October 31. Set to feature fan favourites Get Ugly and Go Fishing, as well as Seventeen, the debut offering from Worm Girlz is an eclectic mix of razor sharp comedic wit and uplifting and powerful messaging. The album will drop off the back of an exciting few months for Worm Girlz who are currently touring nationally with WAAX before gearing up for a string of showcases at SXSW Sydney.
