Fresh from transforming Brunswick Street Mall into a beacon of colourful choreography and empowering anthems at BIGSOUND, Meanjin garage-quintet Worm Girlz are proud to unveil their electrifying new single Thinkin’ Bout.
A statement of identity, pride and representation, Thinkin’ Bout is an exhilarating embrace of Worm Girlz’ diverse community and their journeys to break from internalised shame and fear. True to their ethos, Worm Girlz deliver a resonant message with each release and Thinkin’ Bout is no different, with the band lifting those around them while championing unapologetic self-expression.
“Thinkin’ Bout is a passionate tribute to the queer community, celebrating how cool, hot, and sexy we are,” boasts guitarist Isabella. “As a lesbian, this song means so much to me, highlighting our fierce representation and honouring our vibrant experiences. This song is about embracing our true selves, thinking about the amazing girlz in our lives and going bananas over them. Let’s go lesbians!”
Recorded and mixed with Lucas Montgomery – whose work has gone from strength to strength with Worm Girlz singles Not My Body and Go Fishing – Thinkin’ Bout pulses with gritty guitar riffs and a magnetic synergy between all five members. Never have Worm Girlz felt more united and resolute as a band, with each tantalising lyric delivered with passionate precision. It’s a moody, dramatic, anthemic release that could only be perfected by everyone’s favourite Wormz.
“I’m grateful to be alive at a time where sapphic love is celebrated as beautiful and passionate,” concludes vocalist Lauren. “Writing this song and feeling safe to accept and celebrate this side of myself was incredibly liberating and sometimes feels like a big warm hug to my younger self.”
Having already performed at Laneway Festival and BIGSOUND this year, Worm Girlz will officially launch Thinkin’ Bout at The Valley Loft in Meanjin on November 16, before hitting the road for a series of exciting performances. With upcoming shows alongside the likes of Suzi in Naarm/Melbourne and Platonic Sex in Meanjin/Brisbane, Worm Girlz promise fun-fuelled nights of queer celebration and community.
