More than a decade into their already-storied career, beloved Brisbane indie-rock four-piece Babaganouj are returning to the fray with their long-awaited debut album ‘Jumbo Pets’ which is scheduled to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting world in early 2023!

After forming back in 2011, Babaganouj made waves across the Australian scene with their distinctively dreamy, harmony-laden brand of power-pop, featuring the triple-threat songwriting and vocal attack of Charles Sale (guitar/vocals), Harriette Pilbeam (bass/vocals) and Ruby McGregor (guitar/vocals) as well as the powerful percussion chops of George Browning (drums).

During their initial tenure, Babaganouj released a string of well-received EPs and singles such as Too Late For Love, Bluff and Do Rite With Me Tonite which saturated radio airwaves and found them sharing stages with international acts such as The Lemonheads, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Veruca Salt, The Wedding Present and The Coathangers as well as Aussies faves such as Smudge, Palms, The Preatures and Northeast Party House.

Now, following a hibernation period during which the members focussed on their individual lives outside of the band to ensure its longevity – including Pilbeam, who during the break shot to international prominence with her solo project Hatchie – the four friends return to the spotlight together armed with ‘Jumbo Pets’, a sprawling and eclectic collection which now stands confidently as the definitive document of Babaganouj’s collective and considerable charms.

Lead single What Planet Do You Come From? proves the perfect introduction to this new opus, a swirling four-minute flourish of softly-simmering instrumentation, detached vocals and subtly beautiful harmonies which bursts into beautiful fruition at its vibrant chorus, dripping with rockhard riffs and unforgettable hooks as it forms the perfect fusion of atmospheric dream-pop and robust indie rock: in other words, classic Babaganouj

They’re now (slightly) older and (arguably) wiser but undoubtedly at the top of their game – Babaganouj are back, and this time they’re taking no prisoners! Prepare yourself for the age of ‘Jumbo Pets’!
