Following a successful month-long stint writing and performing in the USA, including performances at New York’s New Colossus Festival and Austin’s SXSW, Bakers Eddy have today shared their new single Dust On My Brain.
Alongside the new single, the Wellington-raised, Melbourne-based group are also thrilled to announce their new EP ‘I’m Doing Better’ is set for release on Friday 6th June 2025 via ADA.
The kindling for the creation of the remainder of the EP, Dust On My Brain is a song that addresses mental health and the struggles to maintain it. “Dust On My Brain comes from a feeling of having the walls close in around you, and being trapped in self destructive cycles,” reveals frontman Ciarann Babbington. “I wasn’t sleeping. I wasn’t going out, seeing people. Just spinning myself out with negativity and stress and making bad coping decisions. I don’t tend to write songs when my mental health is struggling, but this one kind of poured out when I was at my lowest and ended up being the catalyst for change, which I’m very grateful for. It made me excited to make music, so most of the EP was written because of Dust.”
The new release is Bakers Eddy‘s second single from their upcoming EP – their first record since 2022’s debut album ‘Love Boredom Bicycles’ (Ivy League) – with previous track Manners Street reigniting their momentum in March this year. Manners Street, a love letter to the band’s beloved Aotearoa hometown of Wellington, was added to full rotation on triple j after a first play on the station’s Home & Hosed program.
It landed coverage from Rolling Stone AU/NZ, Music Feeds, The Music, Happy Mag, and more – plus playlisting support from Spotify and Apple Music.
Both singles and ‘I’m Doing Better’ were self-produced alongside Vincent McIntyre (Fan Girl / Mr Industry / Elizabeth M. Drummond), mixed by Justin Gerrish (Vampire Weekend / The Strokes / Weezer), and mastered by Emily Lazar (Foo Fighters / Coldplay / Sia).
