West Australian hip hop artist Chani returns with her bold new five-track EP ‘Spice’, a confident, genre-blending release that marks a powerful new chapter for the Scarborough-based artist.
Known for her unflinching lyricism and fearless storytelling, Chani delivers a collection that moves effortlessly between vulnerability, groove and attitude.
The EP’s lead single High showcases a playful, energetic take on lust and attraction, drenched in classic hip-hop textures and elevated by the smooth, modern vocals of Just Kane. Produced by Rob Shaker (SBX / Sylabolix) and recorded, mixed and mastered at Shakedown Studios, the track is a polished, easy adult listen that balances nostalgia with contemporary flair.
“‘High’ is my favourite track on the EP. I originally wrote the lyrics lying in bed one morning.. I was in an intense situationship like none I had experienced before and had to get it down on paper to sort my head out more than anything. It ended up being a 3 verse rap, which is quite long for me… To be honest, this story could have 20 verses and still being added to!”
‘Spice’ follows the release of singles Magnetic, Casual, and Inside, marking Chani’s return after a hiatus and rebrand from Seasta Chani. The EP captures a period of reinvention, exploring empowerment, social commentary, intimacy and rebuilding, while staying grounded in the sharp lyricism that has defined her career.
Previously, Chani’s WAM-nominated single Finding My Feet and crowdfunded debut album ‘Life Sounds Like’ earned acclaim for their bold, genre-bending approach. Her FringeWorld production Bows Don’t Go, nominated for Best New Music Act, highlighted her versatility beyond traditional hip hop, while her live project Seasta Chani and the Twilight Heist cemented her reputation as one of WA’s most dynamic performers.
With ‘Spice’, Chani reasserts herself not only as a vital female voice in Australian hip hop, but as a proud local artist bringing her story back to where it began: on her own terms.
