There’s a lot going on for Dune Rats right now! Their fourth album ‘Real Rare Whale’ debuted at the top position of the Australian ARIA Charts and has received a Best Hard Rock / Metal album nomination at this years’ ARIA Awards. They’ve announced their massive 45 date ‘International Rampage Tour’ of the USA, Canada, UK and Europe. Banged out a “one for the ages” take on an Aussie classic for triple j’s Like A Version. Just announced their final dates for 2022 and today, release their Bangalow Billy Cart Derby winning video for Space Cadet.

Space Cadet is the new single from ‘Real Rare Whale’. “It’s about the million things you wanna be when you’re growing up.” Danny explains. “Then as you’re getting older, certain things make you realise, “I can’t be that anymore, it’s gone too far”. You still wanna keep that buzz of being someone who could do anything.”

One of those things is a racing car driver. Enter the Bangalow Billy Cart Derby, the annual race down the main street of the Northern NSW town. With 2 grand as prize money, the boys get to work and start building their ultimate billy cart, powered by the Young Henry’s brewed ‘Dunies Larger’ nonetheless. Directed and produced by Alex Flamsteed, Space Cadet is a classic Dune Rats video which was made with support from the organisers of the Bangalow Billy Cart Derby. You can check out the boys winning ways here.

Dunies also performed Space Cadet as their original song on triple j’s Like A Version last week. You can check out the performance HERE. It was their classic take on The AngelsAm I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again that sent listeners into a spin. Featuring special guests Jacko from Beddy Rays, Ruby Fields, Anna Ryan from Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers, Kelly Jansch from Totty and the originators of the song, the legendary Rick and John Brewster from The Angels. Danny commented about the experience “Bucket list, ticked! Even to be in the same room as those guys and play with them, let alone cover that song for Like A Version was epic.” Check out Dune Rats & Friends Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again HERE.

After their Like A Version aired last Friday, Dune Rats performed the song that evening for the sold out 1800 strong crowd at Sunshine Coast venue Nightquarter. It went down a storm and no doubt will be in high demand when the boys perform their final shows for 2022 in North Queensland with shows announced for 28th December at Edge Hill Tavern in Cairns, 29th December at Dalrymple Hotel in Townsville and in Airlie Beach at Magnums Hotel on 30th December. Dunies are also part of the Castaways Festival on Rottnest Island and Rolling Sets on the Central Coast. Full dates are below.

2023 will kick off with a massive 45 date ‘International Rampage Tour’ of the USA and Canada with US band Chastity and the UK and Europe with good mates Beddy Rays.

Alongside their ‘Real Rare Whale’ ARIA Award nomination, the next 6 months ahead for Dune Rats sees the band hit a new punk-saturated, pun-filled peak.
