Today, Brisbane-based pop singer Eves Karydas releases Last Night When We Were Young, the first single on upcoming EP ‘Wide Eyed’.

Produced by Dan Puusaari of Cub Sport, Last Night When We Were Young is a slow burning, intimate track about the pressures of growing up coupled with the fleeting sense of life passing before your eyes. Karydas expands her pop sensibilities, with a string accompaniment providing the sonic stage for Karydas to conjure up transitory, cinematic snapshots of her life and loves.

We had spent the day at Jon’s [Buscema, writer/co-producer] house alternating between the swimming pool and the studio, chatting about the fast moving feeling of life. Where does all the time go? It’s like we’ve suddenly woken up, we’re adults, we have responsibilities,” said Karydas.

Karydas said the song came at a time when she was taking things for granted and wanted to begin cherishing the small moments of happiness in life.

“Like at the start of a new relationship when the hours feel like minutes, and you know those moments aren’t going to last forever. That’s the feeling we wanted to capture in the song,” she said.

The music video for Last Night When We Were Young was shot in Melbourne and directed by Daniel Mayne.

The ‘Wide Eyed’ EP is out November 25, written over the period of a few years. It features four tracks which present the journey of a great love.

The EP conjures up how love touches down on Be With You, grows larger and profound on Need Your Love, settles in and becomes a constant on Last Night When We Were Young, with the final track Must Be Love a celebration of the house that love builds. “I put these songs together in this collection to capture a journey. As cliché as it sounds, love is such a universal feeling and I’m sure everyone in the world can relate to it in some way or another,” said Karydas.

Over the course of her career, Eves Karydas has amassed over 60 million streams, has platinum and gold selling AU singles, and has had three singles on 2021 EP ‘Reruns’ supported by triple j. Her work has been featured on Spotify‘s New Music Friday UK and New Pop Revolution playlists, as well as BBC Radio 1‘s Best New Pop playlist. Karydas has performed at every major Australian festival, has multiple sold out headline tours under her belt, and has supported Dua Lipa, The Wombats, and George Ezra.
