Eora/Sydney-based punk-rock group, FANGZ, have today released their brazen new single Fine Without You – produced by Tim Maxwell (LOSER) at Restless Noise Studios in Naarm/Melbourne.
Emotively charged, fast-paced and unapologetic, Fine Without You sees the quartet sonically venture into a ‘plug in and play’ style approach, capturing the raw essence of their chaotic live performances, while simultaneously shining a light on the song’s themes of battling inner-demons.
Alongside the release is the provocative accompanying video – filmed, directed and edited by Rhys Bennett of High Voltage Photography (Polish Club, Totally Unicorn). Paying homage to cult films such as Snatch, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, the music video combines guerrilla filmmaking tactics with a healthy dose of FANGZ’s intuitive humour.
Frontman Joshua Cottreau further delves into the motivation behind the track: “Fine Without You is about overcoming addiction. The lyrics allude to a love song, but it’s really about falling down a hole and climbing back out to overcome it all. In late 2022, I almost threw everything away that was good in my life. Fortunately, I had a great network of family and friends who supported me throughout the ordeal. I was very lucky to get the outcome I did, and it’s made me appreciate the things I take for granted every day. Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom, to become the best version of yourself.”
To coincide with the new track, the band will team up with Brisbane-based punks, Lunchtime, to deliver a limited edition 7″ split vinyl, which will also see both artists launch the release at Tomcat in Meanjin/Brisbane on Saturday, 17 June. Over the coming months, the band will also support American hard-rock luminaries He Is Legend, which comes off the back of recent touring with FIDLAR (USA), and playing to a capacity crowd at The Lady Hampshire.
Since their inception in 2019, FANGZ have released three critically praised and fan adored EP’s, which received strong support from the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, triple j, ABC‘s rage, MTV, community radio and global tastemaker blogs.
In the live arena, they’ve sold out a slew of headline shows around Australia, and toured and shared stages with the likes of FIDLAR (USA), The Bronx (USA), Cancer Bats (CAN), Comeback Kid (CAN), Gyroscope, RedHook and The Bennies.
