Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and rising superstar G Flip has released their highly anticipated album DRUMMER, out now via Future Classic.
After eleven triple j Hottest 100 tracks to date, three ARIA Nominations, one Gold single (‘Lover’) and three Platinum singles (‘About You’, ‘Drink Too Much’, ‘Killing My Time’), performances at the AFL and AFLW Grand Final, The Logies, and more recently the top of the Scenic World Skyway, G Flip is ushering in a bold new era with the release of DRUMMER.
A thrilling evolution of their critically and commercially successful 2019 full-length debut About Us, DRUMMER brings a heightened intentionality to their songwriting, sound and creativity. In creating the album, G Flip co-produced and co-wrote every song on the album, alongside the likes of Tommy English (Billy Idol, Kacey Musgraves, Fitz and the Tantrums) and Colin Brittain (All Time Low, A Day To Remember, Royal & the Serpent), dreaming up a collection of songs that transcend boundaries and expectations.
Of the release, G Flip says “Most people know me as a singer that drums, but to me, I’m a DRUMMER that sings. Since I picked up the sticks at nine years old I’ve been dreaming of a solo pop artist whose main instrument was drums. As the years have gone by I realised that maybe that person I was dreaming of, was actually myself. So I made the record little G always wanted, DRUMMER, a pop album from a drummer’s perspective”.
All throughout DRUMMER, G Flip reveals the rare balance of precision and abandon they’ve honed for almost their entire life; “The idea was to make a record from a drummer’s perspective, so I started out by writing up a list of drum ideas and grooves to include on the album.” says G Flip, who also plays guitar, bass, and keys throughout the album.
Following on from DRUMMER hit singles ‘Be Your Man’ and ‘The Worst Person Alive‘, G Flip has also shared the music video for ‘Good Enough’. Of the track, G says; “‘Good Enough’ was never meant to be a single. It’s a song about not feeling good enough for someone that you know deserves the world…This song has had many iterations over the past few years and when I finally got it to where it is now, it quickly became one of my favourite songs on the album. It’s not a typical pop song, and it was definitely not an obvious choice to make it a single. It’s a song I’m really proud of and I’m stoked that it’s out in the world.”
G Flip will return home for the DRUMMER Australian Tour across August and September performing thirteen huge shows in Brisbane, Cairns, Adelaide, Perth, Torquay, Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle. The long-awaited tour news is a homecoming celebration, marking their first headline dates on Aussie soil since 2019.
