A stunning collection of songs that cement her knack for storytelling, Debut EP ‘Suburban Daze’ from Meanjin artist Georgie Neilsen arrives on November 18.

Heartbreak, emotional chaos and reclaiming independence – these are the central threads in the fabric of ‘Suburban Daze’. Together with co-writer and close friend Cody McWaters, Georgie Neilsen has crafted a mature body of work that exudes powerful charm, and sees the artist reflect on the past as she moves forward into a new chapter. Neilsen states: “The EP began with the title track ‘Suburban Daze’ when Cody and I recorded it back in 2019. We didn’t have a definitive idea of what songs were going to be apart of this collection but they make a lot sense together now. What the songs have in common is that they were all written in my old bedroom at my parent’s house when I was in a daze a lot of the time, trying to make sense of who I was meant to be and from being created during that period in my life they hold a genuine amount of vulnerable, grief, passion, growth and understanding.”

Opening with the delicate, stripped-back acoustic gem that is A Day In A Life, the musician’s vocal prowess already takes hold with full force.

Next, country-leaning guitars and an indie-rock rhythm swell with earnest lyrics to a heartfelt crescendo in Eyes Wide Open.

The talented songstress and cabaret performer says of the EP’s title track: “Suburban Daze is an intrinsic description of the neighbourhood I grew up in from the native flora and fauna to the neighbours arguing around me. This song encapsulates the dichotomy of my teenage life.”

Indie-rock banger The Last Time I Felt Better depicts a tale of two people who fall into an addictive romance, while closing track I’m Changing is a coming-of-age tale, circling back to the artist’s journey with self-acceptance.

Two singles off Georgie Neilsen‘s new EP have already been greeted with rapturous applause and support from Double J, ABC Country, ABC Brisbane, Music Feeds, AAA Backstage, Scenestr, RAW Artists, Good Call Live, The AU Review, Livewire AU and more.

Neilsen and her band will be launching the EP at Brisbane’s The Brightside on November 20, supported by LAYYLA and Tessa FleurTICKETS HERE
