Today, Gomeroi rapper based in South Sydney’s Maroubra Bidjigal Land, Kobie Dee releases his new single and music video Basics available via Bad Apples Music

Continuing as a role model for many, and opening to a rolling melody, Kobie hop-scotches across the track speaking about the proud place he finds himself today. Midway through, a beat-switch gives the MC space to tell tales of his early life, growing up with his mum. A testament to the power of storytelling in music, Basics sees Kobie in his purest form.

To celebrate the release of Basics, Kobie Dee will perform live at Melbourne’s Laundry Bar on September 17 before a hometown show at Sydney’s The Lansdowne on September 24. Appearing as a special guest at both shows is UK rapper, and The Guardian’s Ones To Watch artist, Jords. Both nights will offer fans the chance to see Kobie deliver his dynamic stage show in preparation for festival appearances at Spilt Milk in Canberra, Ballarat and the Gold Coast across November and December. On Friday, September 9, Kobie will also showcase this new material at a debut show in Germany, as part of the Import Export Open Festival program, Wor(l)d Connects presents: Conscious HipHop, Roots & Spoken Word between Sydney, London and Munich.

Kobie says on Basics“This song speaks of where I’m at in my life right now, celebrating where I came from to get where I am at the moment. In the second verse I speak on where I was at before and what I had to overcome. For me, it was over coming addiction and losing so may friends to drugs and suicide. I’ve lost more then 10 people I know to suicide and this has impacted me a lot. In the final verse I circle back to how it is for me now… even though these things still impact me and are still things I deal with right now, I have definitely grown as a person and I feel lucky I am able to navigate these challenges through my music.”

Most recently, Kobie Dee released his highly watched and authentic storytelling Homebound cut for Red Bull 64 Bars, available on Spotify and Apple Music for the first time since its release on Red Bull’s YouTube channel in 2021. Prior to that, Kobie completed his highly successful Gomeroi Nation tour. Kobie is also a Youth Ambassador for Weave Youth & Community Services and Just Reinvest NSW, and on January 26 of this year, Kobie was also announced as an ambassador for Nooky’s platform We Are Warriors, dedicated to inspiring, equipping and empowering Indigenous youth to succeed by connecting them with First Nations role models.

The series invited First Nations people to share their stories of overcoming adversity, together celebrating their unique strengths to inspire the next generation. Since 2018, Kobie Dee has found unique connection with his peers and audiences across Australia via effortless flows, laser-sharp execution, and visceral storytelling that connects deeply with all who listen.
