Following the cheeky and confessional pop-infected, Oat Milk, Naarm singer-songwriter Harris shares new single My Girl’s Wicked Smart. Taken from his forthcoming sophomore EP ‘Defiantly, Maybe’, due Friday, 9 December, which will be celebrated with a headline show at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne/Naarm on Thursday, 15 December, with support from Obscura Hail and Merpire (solo).

Produced and mixed by Sam Swain (Rat!Hammock, Obscura Hail) & mastered by Adam Dempsey (Angie McMahon, Courtney Barnett), My Girl’s Wicked Smart “is a song about being so infatuated with someone that you start going a little crazy, start getting a little paranoid and letting those pesky intrusive thoughts linger for a little too long.”

Breaching the gap between pop and indie rock, Harris found a love for music at a young age. “In grade one, I moved primary schools and two things happened that changed my life; I saw the ABBA musical and found out my new teacher Wendy was an Elvis impersonator. I was obsessed with both, so I asked my Mums if I could start guitar lessons and that was it.” Since then, Harris has found himself on a musical journey that has been both predictable and completely erratic, shaping the scope of his creative pursuits and the trajectory of his young adult life.

His first band, The McQueens, were triple j Unearthed High finalists in 2011. Just 5 years later, he was touring nationally and supporting heavyweights Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Vines, Ecca Vandal and Birds of Tokyo as frontman of Melbourne five-piece Fan Girl. While Fan Girl remains a big part of his creative life, the solo project of Harris symbolises something completely intimate and honest for Harris, leaning into the more heartfelt and silly side of the dynamic songwriter.

Harris’ stirring debut single Sheena Is A Bush Doofer was welcomed with 5-star reviews on triple j Unearthed, airplay from triple j’s Richard Kingsmill, Mornings, Weekend Lunch and Home & Hosed, along with Spotify playlisting amongst the highly sought-after New Music Friday AU/NZ, Broad Chords, and Fresh Finds. His debut EP ‘OK Kombucha’, featuring follow-up singles Sunbake Cemetery, Satellites and Post Madonna received further support across MTV and community radio, including FBi, Triple R, 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide and SYN.

Telling personal recounts of self-exploration and relationships through a mystifying lens of indie rock, Harris’ sophomore EP ‘Defiantly, Maybe’, out Friday, 9 December, is another big step up for the savvy songwriter. He now, more than ever, wields the maturity and vision to etch his name as an artist who can go the distance.
