With over a decade between album releases, Perth rockers Jebediah have transcended time and space with their brand new album ‘OIKS’ officially out today, with the quartet firmly cementing their iconic status in the Australian musical landscape via their sixth studio album. Releasing into the world via Cooking Vinyl Australia, ‘OIKS’ also kickstarts a packed year for Jebediah in 2024, with the band set to embark on a 22 date national album tour starting in July, supported in full by Aussie rock legends Magic Dirt.

Via ‘OIKS’, Jebediah catapult their iconic past and present into a dazzling new era. Remaining consistently active since the release of their previous album, 2011’s ‘Kosciuszko’, Jebediah have triumphantly surged in 2024, with ‘OIKS’ ultimately showcasing the band’s enduring creativity while never losing sight of their influential indie and alternative rock roots. An instant opus in the illustrious Jebediah catalogue, ‘OIKS’ rises to the occasion from start to finish, culminating after the many turbulent years that came before its release, as the band shares, “We are so proud to see the release of  ‘OIKS’ today, which is the fruition of many years of work through pretty difficult circumstances. It is a true labour of our love.”

Tracing its origins back to experimenting in the studio with frequent Jebediah collaborator Dave Parkin (Red Jezebel, Spacey Jane), the end result of ‘OIKS’ is an album that finds Jebediah completely at home with their sonic identity in 2024; as iconic as their breakthrough debut ‘Slightly Odway’ in 1997 – and yet somehow with more vigour than ever before.

Opening with the dulcet Bad For You, ‘OIKS’ journeys between poppin’ rock (Gum Up The Bearings), driving yet jangly dexterity (Motivation), chant-ready moments of stomping euphoria (Don’t Stop!), moody alt rock gems (Rubberman) and plenty of sunny sonic vibes (April Slumber). And whether oscillating between more palpitating fare (The Slip) or magnetic rock simplicity (Okay, You Win), ‘OIKS’ also exudes a familiar dreamy coating across the board, culminating in the album’s closing delight; the sharp swoon of Aqua – Lung.

Storming into 2024 with brand new music, Jebediah closed out 2023 with a headline tour, as well as appearances in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane as part of Good Things Festival alongside Fall Out Boy and Limp Bizkit. Jebediah were also cemented as Western Australian music royalty last year, with the band inducted into the WAM Hall Of Fame as part of the WA Music Awards. From emerging decades ago with infectious hooks and gritty riffs through to soundtracking the late ‘90s, early 2000s and beyond with a deluge of hits and snagging multiple ARIA Award nominations, Jebediah are equally at home wowing crowds in dimly-lit crowded pubs as they are weaving musical magic to thousands on festival stages. Now faced firmly ahead towards a boundless future, armed with their stunning new album ‘OIKS’, Jebediah are only getting warmed up for some incredible things yet to come, including their upcoming extensive national album tour starting this July alongside very special guests and long-time Jebediah friends Magic Dirt, as well as a show in New York City on 15 June, with more info to be announced.

“It’s been 24 years since we toured nationally together so we are beyond excited to be back with our very good mates, Jebediah!” shares Magic Dirt of hitting the road in 2024 alongside the Jebs. “We’ve always had a total blast playing with them, we love their tunes, we love them and hangin’ out is such a treat, so we are keen to hit the road together again for what will be a rockin’ good time! We can’t wait!!”

And Jebediah are in complete agreement with Magic Dirt’s sentiments, concluding, “We are positively giddy to be heading out on the road to celebrate ‘OIKS’ with our dear friends Magic Dirt, who we last toured the nation with 24 years ago!  Can you believe it?  This will be one for the ages!”
