L D R U  fans rejoice! The much-loved project of acclaimed Sydney-based producer and DJ Drew Carmody has officially returned, marked by his signing of a worldwide deal to Warner Music Australia and the arrival of his addictive new single The Excuse out today. Accompanying the new release is a high-energy, psychedelic collage video created by Australian digital artist Ego / Undersea Creative.

A percussion-heavy party starter strewn with piano and tambourine, The Excuse showcases a vibrant new era for L D R U, painting his signature synth-pop sound with a grittier, infectious groove. Armed with a healthy dose of indie-rock charm, The Excuse makes for a perfect festival anthem and dancefloor igniter.

Talking about The Excuse, L D R U says the main element of the record was collaboration – “Synergy between great minds and feelings alike, all mixed into one harmonious blend of dance/rock and pop. It’s about not caring what anyone else thinks, clearing your head from all the drama and having a genuine childlike state of mind – really having fun, with the kind of laughter that makes your cheeks ache from smiling so much.”

The collaborators Drew is referring to are songwriter and producer Taras Hrubyj-Piper, plus hilarious TikTok-famous comedian and drummer Tom Cardy.

As for L D R U’s hopes for those who listen? “Make sure you let your hair down and dance like no one is watching, while blasting it on your speakers.”

Leading into the official single, fans were also treated to a string of four electrifying warm up tracks. From the exhilarating and magnetic Be There and Basecamp to the shimmering, punch-packing Let You Go and Ride Through, the tracks revealed a reinvigorated L D R U, asserting that his new chapter is set to be the most exciting yet. L D R U is ushering in his new era as part of the Warner Music Australia roster, with The Excuse being his official debut on the label, and a swag of even more thrilling dance tracks set to be unleashed very soon.

President of Warner Music Australasia, Dan Rosen, says “I am genuinely thrilled to welcome L D R U to the Warner Music family. We’re long term fans of his work, and when we first heard the new songs he had been working on over the past couple of years, I knew we had to bring him into the label. These are seriously huge tracks, and I can’t wait to hear them blasting across dancefloors and festival stages around Australia and the world.”

L D R U carries a decorated resume, with his 2017 ‘Sizzlar’ mixtape housing the breakthrough ARIA-nominated and Triple Platinum accredited single Keeping Score, along with Platinum accredited tracks To Be Free and Next To You. In a defining moment for L D R U, earlier this month he dropped a remix of Major Lazer’s Be Together feat. Wild Belle, which clocked over 150k streams in its first week alone. His celebrated catalogue of electronic / dance tracks has clocked over 70million streams, and moved crowds at major Australian festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Field Day, Stereosonic, Falls Festival, and Listen Out, as well as on tours with the likes of The Chainsmokers, NIGHTMRE, and Slander.
