Meanjin / Brisbane-based 17-year-old singer-songwriter Paulina has just revealed her brooding accompanying video for new single Untouched – filmed, directed and edited by Toby Hobart and Matt Pettigrew of Slate Media.
With hints of film noir, the video is deeply mysterious and intriguing as it takes the audience on a stunning visual journey through carefully curated imagery that beautifully compliments the ethereal soundscape and captivating vocals. Filmed in various locations around Meanjin / Newstead, the video tells a compelling story of a vulnerable relationship.
Paulina explains the concept of the video: “The song focuses on my point of view within the relationship, so the music video compliments this by including many shots of me in solitude and my black shadow that is foregrounded by white light – representing my inner thoughts. In another scene, I follow my friend Liam Keates-Ryley (who acts as the guy in the relationship) in a ghost/shadow-like way through the streets, as what I say and do with him can never leave his mind. Then the shots of him and I together, flowers blooming and rockets taking off just add to the eeriness of the video and the song.â€
Since its release, Untouched has seen support from the likes of Spotify, triple j Unearthed, 4ZZZ, SYN FM, Cool Accidents, Tone Deaf, Australian Music Scene, Good Call Live, and AAA Backstage.
Paulina was recently announced as the winner of the ‘Youth Award’ (Ages 10-17) in the 2022 Queensland Music Awards for her 2021 single Parasite. Previous releases have been widely embraced by Spotify, triple j, triple j Unearthed and Australian community radio. In the blogosphere, her tracks have been supported by the likes of The Music, The AU Review, Music Feeds, Livewire AU, AAA Backstage, Something You Said, and as AIR’s ‘Feature Artist of the Week’. Her music videos have also seen support from MTV (AU).Â
Born in Germany and raised in Queensland, Paulina is quickly showing her capability to write uniquely emotive songs, capturing the true essence of her songwriting subjects in her purest performances, taking cues from luminaires Jorja Smith, Joy Crookes and Olivia Dean.
