Meanjin/Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Paulina is set to unveil her mesmirising new single Maybe We’re Running – produced by Tim Bettinson (Vancouver Sleep Clinic) and Luke Jenkins.
Maybe We’re Running showcases Paulina‘s perennially flawless falsetto, immediately leaving the listener with goosebumps, while her breathy and delicate tone compliments the acoustic opening. Her angelic voice glides over the lifting orchestral landscape of the song, exhibiting the arrangement’s enchanting and expansive qualities. As the melody floats among the reverb-washed instrumentation, it balances both a euphoric and melancholic finale.
Paulina talks about the inspiration behind Maybe We’re Running: “It was a real punch in the gut when Roe v. Wade was overturned in the US last year, stripping women of their reproductive rights. Even though I live in Australia, far away from those restrictive laws, it makes you question your power as a woman, anywhere. Could this too one day happen here in Australia? Why are there still so many people who don’t care about women’s voices? As a woman and a human being on this planet, I think it’s powerful to sing loudly about all of this. And I hope you can sing with me too, even louder.”
Paulina was the winner of the ‘Youth Award’ (Ages 10-17) in the Queensland Music Awards (2022)for her 2021 single Parasite. Previous releases have been widely embraced by Spotify, triple j, triple j Unearthed and Australian community radio stations FBi Radio, 4ZZZ, SYN Media, 2RRR, Edge Radio, Radio Adelaide and more.
In the blogosphere, her tracks have been supported by the likes of The Music, The AU Review, Cool Accidents, Music Feeds, LivewireAU, AAA Backstage, Something You Said and as AIR‘s’Feature Artist of the Week’. Her music videos have also seen support from MTV Upload.
Born in Germany and raised in Queensland, Paulina is quickly showing her capability to write uniquely emotive songs, capturing the true essence of her songwriting subjects in her purest performances, taking cues from luminaires Jorja Smith, RAYE and Olivia Dean.
In the coming weeks, Paulina is set to unveil the accompanying music video for Maybe We’re Running.
