Following their emergence in 2023, and a period of relentless live performances, developing and refining their sound, Melbourne / Naarm post-punk trio, Remit, are set to release their debut single Posthuman, on April 11th – but we’ve got the EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE right here! The track is the first taste from their soon-to-be-announced album due later in the year.
Written in the depths of the band’s notorious ‘concrete bunker’, an underground, dimly lit, and damp space akin to a post-apocalyptic shelter, the scene was the perfect setting for crafting the track. Both a statement and a rallying cry, ‘Posthuman’ explores the philosophical idea of posthumanism, questioning how humanity must evolve – whether through technology, a deeper connection with nature, or by bracing for an increasingly grim reality.
Sonically, the track is built upon a hypnotic march of tight, rigid krautrock bass and drums, driving the song forward without pause. Performed in two parts, the second half of Posthuman erupts into a frenzy of screeching alarm, the sound of the synth guitar taking centre stage, creating waves of piercing distortion both chaotic and controlled.
Since their formation, Remit has built a reputation on the live circuit across Melbourne / Naarm, sharing stages with numerous local artists as well as international touring acts Buddhadatta, Vogli Bonze and Sister Paul. Through the band’s visual output, they have had the pleasure of collaborating with acclaimed filmmakers Dirk de Bruyn and Paul Rogers.
Posthuman was recorded at Lily St Studios in Coburg, Victoria with Simon Maisch. Simon also mixed and co-produced with the band. Mastering was done by the legendary Don Bartley.
