Fresh from their debut EP ‘Somewhere In Between’, Boorloo/Perth-based indie pop/rock act Sophian return with their first single of the year Heaven — produced by Dave Parkin at Blackbird Studios (Spacey Jane, Sly Withers, Old Mervs).
Heaven opens with shimmering guitars that ebb and flow, casting light and shadow within a serene, ethereal atmosphere. Sophian Manik‘s enchanting vocals weave heartfelt lyrics with lush melodies, evoking a profound sense of connection and hope, while maintaining a compelling groove. As the track unfolds, it crescendos into a powerful climax, embodying the band’s signature fusion of expansive soundscapes and intimate emotional depth.
Sophian share the inspiration behind Heaven: “This song started as a love letter, an ode to the kind of love that makes you feel like you belong. But life has a way of shifting meaning beneath your feet. In the middle of writing, Michael’s best friend lost his mother to suicide. I lost two friends of my own. Grief has a way of changing everything, and suddenly, ‘Heaven’ became more than just a song about love, it became a song about absence, about longing, about the quiet hope that one day, we’ll be together again. I kept coming back to the word ‘Heaven.’ At first, it was a metaphor for home. But the more I sat with it, the more I realised that Heaven, for me, is the people I love. And for those we’ve lost, maybe Heaven is the place where we’ll meet again.”
Accompanying the release, the band will be performing a hometown single launch at Gage Roads Brew Co in Walyalup/Fremantle. This is off the back of an extensive touring run in 2024 for their debut EP, where they embarked on a National Tour paired with regional stripped-back shows across WA.
