Following on from the dynamic track Givin It Up at the top of the year, WA favourites South Summit are back with another moment of soaring, sun-kissed sounds, in new single Ottoway. As another step forward in what’s set to be an exciting roll out of material for 2024, South Summit reinforce their status as one of Australia’s best young bands with Ottoway – exemplary of their talent as songwriters and musicians with clear vision.
The track, produced by longtime collaborator Dave Parkin (Spacey Jane, Ghost Care) and the band’s own Joshua Trindall, came to life at Perth’s Blackbird Sound Studio. Of the track, South Summit describes:
“Ottoway is essentially a “utopia”. Looking from the outside in you see the foundations of a city, but the closer you get, the more you realize how imperfect it is and the flaws become clearer. In saying this, it is a place we call home and no one can change that. Ottoway explores the themes of acceptance and pride. standing firm on your beliefs and accepting the cards you’ve been dealt.” – South Summit
2024 has already seen South Summit come out the gate swinging, continuing to level up as performers right around the country. The release of Givin’ It Up brought with it national Australian tour dates in May, locking in a career milestone for South Summit: the iconic Sydney Opera House.
Their first international foray also beckons, with the band currently inbound to Europe to perform nine shows alongside iconic act The Cat Empire, across the UK, Netherlands, Spain & Switzerland. This marks the first opportunity for international fans to taste the band’s captivating live show.
Adding these tours to an already stacked list of achievements in recent years, including lucrative festival appearances at events like Falls Festival, Groovin The Moo and Party In The Paddock; as well as their own debut national tour and supports for artists including Coterie and Beddy Rays, South Summit have been taking each gig and release in their stride.
The j Award nominated group have continued to let themselves grow as individuals, as well as a band, during this time – the result has been reflected in this recent music. It has matured, without having lost the sense of fun and charisma that first endeared South Summit to crowds around the country during their infancy.
Powering forward for this year now with Ottoway, South Summit are nearing the kick off of a brand new chapter of artistry for them as a band. With Ottoway as the latest taste, South Summit gives fans – old and new alike – another reason to be excited for what is around the corner.
