After a monumental rebirth in 2022, this year Australian metal icons Sunk Loto are celebrating the album that changed the game, with the quartet today announcing the 20th anniversary tour of their 2003 opus ‘Between Birth and Death’.
Bringing this special anniversary event to stages in Fremantle, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in late October and early November, these once-in-a-lifetime shows will once again bring together all four original Sunk Loto members, offering both fans and the band a chance to revisit the prominent 12-track full length still permeating in the psyche of metal purists.
If you had to list the most important heavy Australian albums of all time, it’s likely that Sunk Loto’s 2003 release ‘Between Birth and Death’ would be near the top, and metal aficionados still consider the band one of the most influential home-grown heavy bands of all time. Peaking at #48 on the ARIA Albums Chart, with engineer Paul McKercher snagging an ARIA nomination for his work on the album the following year, ‘Between Birth and Death’ has remained the Sunk Loto‘s second and seemingly final album – that is, until 2023.
With a brand new album currently in the works, the exhilarating new Sunk Loto chapter is in full and thunderous swing. But before new material unfurls, Sunk Loto are returning to Aussie venues this October to tick off a band first: performing ‘Between Birth and Death’ in its entirety live, from 5 Years Of Silence all the way through to Soul Worn Thin.
Following a sold-out tour around the country last year, with multiple shows selling out in mere hours, the Queensland quartet aren’t holding back as they pick up where they left off 15 years ago, turning their gazes to the past, present and future as they embark on a new sonic chapter.
Having previously toured the globe alongside the likes of Korn, Linkin Park, A Perfect Circle, Suicidal Tendencies and Sevendust, with festival appearances under their collective belts including Big Day Out, Homebake, Vans Warped Tour and Splendour In The Grass, Sunk Loto swiftly became synonymous with Australian metal while most members were still in their teens. Following on from their triumphant return last year wowing crowds after 15 years of silence, it’s clear that the best is truly only yet to come for the group who helped paved the way for the modern Australian heavy music renaissance.
Absence has made the heart grow fonder, and the riffs, roars and rhythmic ferocity stronger; don’t delay and snap up your chance to see Sunk Loto back and bigger than ever later this year, with pre-sale tickets on sale today, and meet and greet ticket packages also available, allowing fans a photo with the band, an exclusive signed VIP A3 poster, VIP laminate and more.
