Off the back of their full throttle showcases at BIGSOUND 2022, Meanjin-based punk/ rock outfit Talk Heavy are thrilled to announce the arrival of their debut EP ‘Jump Into Nothing’, out September 29.
Wasting no time since their arrival on the scene earlier in the year, Talk Heavy have been turning heads with recent singles Hoping The Middle and I Wanna Skate Again, with the punk/ rock powerhouses today unveiling a final bite of what’s in store with rampaging new single Mixing Pictures.
“Our debut EP ‘Jump Into Nothing’ is a group of songs written over the past year that we feel perfectly represent both where Talk Heavy is and where we want to keep heading,†explains frontman Matt Cochran. “I think it’s the most vulnerable I’ve been lyrically in my time as a songwriter and I’m excited to keep exploring that even further down the line.â€
The EP announcement comes alongside the news that Talk Heavy have been signed with renowned booking agency New World Artists, accompanied by artists including Luca Brasi, Grinspoon, Mallrat, British India, JK-47, Sneaky Sound System and more.
“From the moment we heard Hoping The Middle there was no debating that this young band had serious talent,†explains NWA agent Liam Saunders. “After getting an early listen to some of their upcoming releases, we just HAD to work with them. We’re incredibly excited to have Talk Heavy join us here at New World Artists and look forward to building a long-term live career with the band.â€
Engineered, produced and mixed by lead singer Matt Cochran at Birthday Boy Studios, with mastering by Matthew Gray, Talk Heavy’s newest single Mixing Pictures was the last song written for the EP, and sees the high-octane outfit already coming into their own.
“For each of us, Mixing Pictures is our personal favourite track from the EP,†says Matt. “Lyrically, it’s about how you can’t force things to work. There’s unfortunately always going to be some things beyond your control in life that you just need to accept and learn from. We’re so proud of how it turned out.â€
Drawing from modern North American alternative punk artists, with nostalgic pop-punk/ emo at their core, Talk Heavy have already built a reputation for delivering riff-rampant belters with the power to stir a mosh pit into a fun-filled frenzy, and with New World Artists in their corner, and multiple shows scheduled for the rest of the year, they’re ready to “gig our big ole butts off!â€
