Returning off the back of the success of the Quarantine Sessions, Up In The Airlock is back to shoot viewers to the moon with performances from the Last Dinosaurs, Full Flower Moon Band, Dancing Water, and Dune Rats.
The Apocalypse Sessions series is a live studio-recorded series which shows local and national acts in a 30 minute intimate set giving viewers rare insight into some of Australia’s best bands. The first half of the Apocalypse Sessions is a love letter to Brisbane.
The new season kicks off with the Last Dinosaurs on 14 March, with performances airing every following Tuesday. The first four sessions will include performances by leather-clad rock ‘n’ rollers Full Flower Moon Band, Dancing Water a neo-soul/punk force to be reckoned with, and finishes off with beloved indie rockers Dune Rats on 4 April.
Recorded and filmed at Ian Haug’s (Powderfinger, The Church) Airlock Studios. Each session will be released on YouTube and accompanied by exclusive behind the scenes footage and interviews shot at the studio.
“Season 2 has been so much fun to curate and make. It’s been a while, now let’s rock it. Such great homegrown Brisbane gloriousness on show here and a couple of interstate blow ins down the track a bit,” said Haug. “Thanks to everyone who’s come on board this time. We hope you love the season,” he said.
“It’s super exciting being able to finally release this. Wow, our line up for this season is wild. It still blows me away how much talent we have here in Australia, especially Brisbane,” said Natalie Sim, Director of Up In The Airlock. “This season our aim was to really have a range of bands at different levels, we have some established, some up-and-comers, and maybe even an international. Some you’ll know and some you won’t. For any music lovers I don’t think you’ll be disappointed,” she said.
Up in the Airlock began as a platform for artists to perform to fans during the instability of COVID-19 lockdowns. The Quarantine Sessions saw 10 performances from artists local and national such as Brisbane rockers WAAX, Screamfeeder, Sahara Beck, J.B. Paterson, VOIID and more. Audiences had the option to donate funds which were given to the artists and crew. This initial ‘Quarantine Sessions’ campaign ran for three months to support the Brisbane music scene through the pandemic.
Now, Up In The Airlock Season 2 is ready to roll on with the good times, showcasing ripper artists in intimate performances with some of the best technical production available.
“It was such a blast working with some of Australia’s best artists. Our crew was incredible and pushed the limits is all areas of the production. These sessions will raise the bar for live studio productions and will be a timeless asset for the bands,” said Alex Flamsteed, producer of Up In The Airlock
Taking inspiration from live sessions such as NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts and Live on KEXP; UITA‘s goal is to become Australia’s go to live session platform with a continuous stream of the best music from around the world. Up In The Airlock is hosted by Ian Haug, directed by Natalie Sim and produced by Alex Flamsteed (METHOD TO MY MADNESS ENTERTAINMENT), recorded and mixed by Steve Kempich (AIRLOCK STUDIOS), artwork by Brayden Doig (ODDBALL DESIGN) with promo by GYROstream.
