The unexpected offspring of a drunken, one-night jam, Woodshed has finally grown up. Long celebrated for their raucous, blues rock and cow-punk roots, the crew have released their third single for 2022, the new country blues tune, Broken Frame.
The track was recorded at The Barn Recording Studio, Plainlands, with mixing and mastering by Steve Robin. Written on guitar in an open G tuning, Broken Frame is intended to be an authentic country song, unlike previous Woodshed interpretations that cross into genres such as rock, punk, and even pop.
Country music is ingrained in the DNA of Woodshed. They say writing Broken Frame was an opportunity to pay tribute to those artists who were played repeatedly on the turntables of the Rumpus Room as young’uns.
The band say of the track, “A guitar mimicking the melody line, toe tappin’ bass grooves, jangly piano and sweet harmonies held together by the laid back swagger of a stripped back kit all complementing the lyrical content of a fella feeling down, thinking about the woman he was once with. Why reinvent the wheel?”
In true ‘Woodshedding’ fashion, the band has been honing their sound and exploring more subtle shades. Live audiences who have sampled Woodshed’s latest offerings have been treated to a blend of layered grooves and heartfelt lyricism, inspired by the blues and country artists of yesteryear. While the varnish may still be drying on their new tunes, established Woodshed fans will recognise the familiar grain of its hedonistic past.
Their career highlights so far include a slew of impressive festival performances, including at Blues and Roots Festival (Busking Stage), Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues Festival, Ewingar Bushfire Appeal Festival, Chinchilla Melon Festival, and making it to the final round of Airlie Beach Festival of Music’s Passport to Airlie competition in 2021. Make sure to catch Broken Frame now!
