Today, Naarm-based Wiradjuri artist YNG Martyr has announced that his debut album ‘Lovesick’ will be released August 11 via Warner Music Australia. Pre-order HERE.

The announcement comes alongside new single As I Should which features Australian favourite Allday. Listen HERE. The track is accompanied by a music video. Watch HERE.

Lovesick is an impressive twelve track collection of boundary pushing hip-hop that explores the constant pull between prioritising those he cares about and what he wants to achieve in life. New single As I Should brings a melodic perspective that combines the two powerhouse’s unique deliveries. The record also features previously released singles Overthinking, 5 Years and WAIT!.

“Lovesick chronicles the journey we all face through life and love. It’s my coming-of-age story, but not in the conventional sense. It’s about growth born out of pain and introspection, and the lingering regret of not prioritising the person who meant the most to me. More than anything, this record is about trying to deal with the weeks, months and years after her” says YNG Martyr of the record.

“YNG Martyr and I share an engineer and I’ve been a fan of his music for a while. When he sent me As I Should it just needed 1 more verse, I sent him a verse back straight away. Actually he asked me to record it again, which was annoying but cool too because it showed me he had a strong vision for the song. So I did it again and that’s what we have now” says Allday of working with YNG Martyr.

With his debut album, Martyr will prove that his music is more than just the soundtrack to a meme. On the full-length project, Martyr stays true to the contemporary rap styles that have defined his career so far, but experiments more with melodic moments of pop and intimate, acoustic-driven material. “I hope my music makes people happy. Until I found rap music, I felt like I didn’t relate to any other music,” he says. “I listened to it and enjoyed it, but I didn’t connect with the artist. I want people to feel connected to me”.

The internet-viral rapper has had an exciting start to 2023 following a festival run of dates that saw him play Spilt Milk, Falls Festival, and Lost Paradise. With viral online success boasting over 200 million streams on his concise catalogue, he combines his musicality with social media finesse and his own unique twist on popular culture.
