Adelaide rock band Bad//Dreems are set to release their first new music in two years. Mansfield 6.0 was recorded in February 2022 with producer Dan Luscombe (The Drones, Courtney Barnett, Amyl and the Sniffers) at engineer Andrew Idge’s Soundpark Studios in Melbourne. It’s the first taste of the band’s forthcoming fourth LP, more detail of which will be revealed soon.

Mansfield 6.0 was inspired by the bizarre evens of late 2021 when the “Hi Vis Riots” of anti-vaccination construction workers coincided with the largest earthquake in Victoria for 50 years.

The band explains: “At 9:15 a.m. AEST on the 22nd of September 2021, an earthquake measuring 6.0 was recorded in the town of Mansfield, Victoria and felt in Melbourne and around the state. At the same time, a mob of 2000 men wearing hi-visibility workwear and shouting anti-vaccination slogans marched through the streets of Melbourne, vandalising cars and clashing with police. They gathered on the West Gate Bridge, where they sang and drank. This song was written at that strange time.”

The video for Mansfield 6.0 was recorded in and around an abandoned warehouse in St Peters, Sydney and features vocalist Ben Marwe, in a role loosely inspired by Rolf de Heer’s cult classic film Bad Boy Bubby. Directed by Mclean Stephenson, a longtime collaborator and shot by cinematographer Billy Zammit. No animals were harmed, and no road rules were contravened in the making of the video.

Bad//Dreems headlined the new Park(lands) stage at Splendour In The Grass recently closing the festival with an incredible set which included a rousing rendition of the Warumpi Band classic Blackfella/Whitefella, featuring special guest King Stingray.

Bad//Dreems are set to undertake an 11 date tour through Arnhem Land beginning on August 15, incorporating dates at Darwin Festival and Kalkarindji’s Freedom Day Festival with Paul Kelly. Bad//Dreems will be joined by Jabiru’s Black Rock Band. The tour is part of the ‘Guts’ regional touring initiative and follows in the footsteps of the Warumpi Band and Midnight Oil‘s famous 1986 ‘Blackfella/Whitefella’ tour. Bad//Dreems originally covered Blackfella/Whitefella with Peter Garrett, Emily Wurramara and Mambali (Brad Bura and Don Murrumgun) for triple j’s Like A Version.
