Favourites in the local live scene and indie-pop groovers, Cheap Date, are bringing us a new one for the playlists. Following up from the May release of their single Gemini, the band have pumped out their new pop rock tune, Choose You, out now!

The track was recorded at Out With The In studios in West End by Hugh Middleton and mixed and mastered by Alex E’Strange. The band already had the melody in their back pocket, and drawing from her own personal experiences, front woman Lara Dee formed the lyrics to Choose You

“One day I was vacuuming my bedroom just singing to myself and the groove came into my head. I sat down then and there and just penned the whole song. When you meet someone that you want to experience the good the bad and the ugly with, you have to hold onto it! This can be an overwhelming concept and Choose You is the upbeat version of this thought process. It is a bit all over the shop…in the best way possible”.

Cheap Date have built a reputation for themselves as knock-out performers, earning themselves a spot on the Suzi east coast tour and having opened for other iconic Aussie acts like Ruby Fields, Peach Fur and Dear Seattle. They’ve performed at prime Brisbane venues like The Triffid and The Zoo and appeared on impressive festival lineups such as this year’s Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Super Fun Day Festival alongside renowned Aussie acts like Hockey Dad and Middle Kids

With a strong theme of gender equality and queer inclusiveness that can be heard through leading lady Lara Dee’s eloquent songwriting, the unequalled bunch of larrikins that are Cheap Date are bursting into the Brisbane music scene with a thrilling energy. Listen to Choose You now and keep an eye out for their debut EP later this year!
