It all started just over a year ago. Dune Rats released the first taste of their fourth album ‘Real Rare Whale’ with the summer banger UP. The song went on to be streamed over 2 million times and hit #49 on the 2021 triple j Hottest 100 countdown. Today, Dune Rats release their sixth and final single from ‘Real Rare Whale’ with the video for album opener, the full throttle punk rocker LTD.Â
And what a better way to have some “unbridled fun†but a round of night golf….complete with alien abduction….. for the LTD video. Dunies commented: “Really stoked we were able to shoot a fun golf clip with the same tight crew we shot UP with. It’s one of our favourites to play from the new album live and hope our mates enjoy it!â€
But what’s a punk rock band from Brisbane supposed to wear on the fairway you ask? Golf apparel masters Birds of Condor had them sorted. Working with accomplished animator and illustrator Jase Harper, ‘Spaced Golf’ is a range of Dune Rats inspired golf wear and accessories, essential for hackers of all ages. “Getting on the green has never looked steezier now that we’ve taken golf to space with Birds!†the band said of the collab.Â
‘Real Rare Whale’ also features the singles Pamela Aniston and What A Memorable Night which just happened to be voted into triple j’s Hottest 200 at #108 and #124 respectively last weekend. But it was the bands epic cover of The Angels classic Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again which featured in the main event at #23, the highest ranked ‘Like A Version’ song in the countdown.
The band’s take on Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again was their first ever triple j ‘Like A Version’. Recorded in November as part of Ausmusic Month, Dunies got some mates in to help with Ruby Fields, Jackson Van Issum (Beddy Rays), Anna Ryan (Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers) and Kelly Jansch (TOTTY) all featuring in the performance. Also joining them were two of the song’s creators, The Angels’ John and Rick Brewster.
“To have the chance of playing the most iconic Angels song with Rick and John was one of those moments in life you gotta pinch ya self,†the band said. “Super humbled that it was voted as the highest ranked LAV of 2023.â€
This Friday 3rd February Dune Rats kick off a massive 44 date tour headline tour through the US and Canada with special guests Chastity before heading to the UK and Europe for with good mates Beddy Rays as guests. The ‘International Rampage Tour’ (full dates below) will have one small interruption with Dune Rats heading back to Australia to headline Super Fun Day Festival at Brisbane’s Eaton’s Hill Hotel Outdoor + Ballroom on Saturday 18th March.
