Eora/Sydney-based indie-rock group FVNERAL have expanded their sentimental catalogue with the arrival of their reflective new cut FROZEN LASAGNE – co-produced by band member Tim Blunt (Stand AtlanticBirds of Tokyo), and Phan Sjarif (Middle KidsCry ClubVelvet Trip), who also mixed the song.

FROZEN LASAGNE is a slow-paced, poignant ballad that shows FVNERAL expressing raw vulnerability and sentiment, guided by warm textures of guitars and the syrupy dual melodies from Tim Blunt and Ally Turner. Taking cues from Tigers Jaw and  Placebo, the song’s hook is a cathartic release that speaks in multitudes about apprehension and compassion, upholding the band’s lyrical values with deft instrumentation and sensitive production.

FVNERAL explain the story behind FROZEN LASAGNE: “FROZEN LASAGNE, in a literal sense, describes a panic attack in the supermarket freezer aisle. In a broader sense, it’s about arriving at a crossroads, recognising that you hold the people closest to you to a higher standard than you hold yourself to; expecting empathy from those who you haven’t been willing to offer it to. It’s about looking at the people who have shown you so much kindness and care and realising that you haven’t been reciprocating. The song details the search for the good inside yourself – the good that the people who love you see, or at least hope they can see again someday.”

Alongside the release is the intimate accompanying video. Filmed and edited by Lorena Rabbani, the clip depicts the light-hearted nature of the band behind the scenes. “The song paints some super glib pictures of mental ill-health and inner turmoil, so it was important for the video to counterbalance all of that,” they explain. “We wanted it to be fun, funny and playful, so we enlisted the services of a particularly selfless friend who managed to eat an entire 1kg family-sized frozen lasagna in about 10 minutes.”
