Following the release of his EP ‘Jacob Fitzgerald & The Electric City’, Naarm/Melbourne-based indie-rock artist Jacob Fitzgerald has returned with a throbbing addition to his ever-growing catalogue, Hurt Me Harder – co-produced by the artist himself alongside Alex Walker.
Powered by immense guitars and thundering drums, Hurt Me Harder explores the conceptual spirits of affection and heartbreak, with the song’s meticulous instrumentation emphasising Jacob‘s motives. Setting a steady pace, the song dynamically wavers and gushes with conviction, with the chorus’ erupting outcry – “your love would have to hurt me harder” – highlighting the apex of Jacob‘s songwriting proficiency.
Jacob talks about the meaning behind Hurt Me Harder: “I find that the deepest forms of love can at times drive you a little crazy. For good or ill. These feelings are usually exacerbated in times of heartbreak and loss, also for good or ill. That’s the throughline of ‘Hurt Me Harder’. It’s about neglecting your feelings of pain to the point of insanity. The whole chorus is a message of ‘nothing you could do would ever hurt me… I’ll always love you’ whilst the heartache is dominating your world. It’s about putting someone on a pedestal, blaming yourself, bottling the pain, and using love as the excuse.”
To celebrate the release, Jacob Fitzgerald will traverse the East Coast of Australia alongside Cheap Date and False London, with performances scheduled at The Brightside in Meanjin/Brisbane, The Lady Hampshire in Eora/Sydney, and Stay Gold in Naarm/Melbourne.
In the live arena, Jacob Fitzgerald has sold out multiple headline shows at beloved Naarm/Melbourne venues Stay Gold, Cherry Bar and Wrangler Studios. His live show has landed him supports alongside Fergus James, The Delta Riggs, The Rions, John Floreani (Trophy Eyes), Selfish Sons, Loose Bricks, The Good Love and Chasing Ghosts.
Singles off his previous EP received raptures of support from Apple Music, triple j Unearthed, Music Feeds, Backseat Mafia, AAA Backstage, Australian Music Scene, MILKY and Good Call Live. He has also seen radio play from 4ZZZ, 3RRR, SYN Media, 2SER and Three D Radio. His music video for Muse was added to MTV Upload.
