Boorloo-based producer and multi-instrumentalist People Taking Pictures (PTP) returns with a bold new release: ‘Dialectics’, the fourth full-length album from the genre-warping project led by Luke Parish (Psychedelic Porn Crumpets).
‘Dialectics’ is a kaleidoscopic blend of alternative rock, hip-hop, jazz, electronic production, and sample-heavy textures — a deeply personal record that unfolds like a waking hallucination.
The album was written and recorded deep in the Perth Hills, at Habitual Habitat Studios, perched above the lush forest of Kalamunda National Park. Immersed in the solitude of nature, Parish crafted ‘Dialectics’ as a sonic collage of distorted dreams, heavy grooves, and flickering transmissions from the future — where the organic and synthetic blur into one.
“‘Dialectics’ is a deep search for some truth and understanding in the world,” says Parish. “A personal memo in response to the passing of time and the turbulence of the ever-increasing speed of the world.”
Long-time collaborator POW! Negro (Superego, Myriad Sun) appears as the album’s sole feature, bringing smooth flows and vivid lyricism that complement the intimate yet expansive feel of ‘Dialectics’ — a record that moves fluidly through layered realities and shifting states of mind.
To visually match the fragmented, dreamlike tone of the music, PTP collaborated with acclaimed Naarm (Melbourne)-based abstract post-graffiti artist Urshtray. Known for his richly layered experimentation on the urban landscape, Urshtray’s large-scale mural—hidden somewhere in the streets of Naarm—serves as the album and single artwork, a perfect visual companion to ‘Dialectics’.
