Mulubinba/Newcastle-based indie-rock band Slow Cinema have just unveiled their debut self-titled EP – produced and mixed by Jack Nigro (DMA’s, The Terrys, Pacific Avenue, Middle Kids).

‘Slow Cinema’ draws upon a kaleidoscope of musical influences such as The Growlers, Arctic Monkeys and Gang of Youths, to craft a sonically rich five-track EP. Featuring energetic basslines, catchy guitar riffs and propulsive rhythmic arrangements, lead singer Tyler Gibbs‘ lyrical prowess charges the record with both emotional resonance and virtuosity.

Slow Cinema talk about the inspiration behind the self-titled EP: “After releasing 4 independent singles since our inception in 2021, we decided it was time to put together a body of work where our fans, new and old, can hear who we truly are. Our debut EP became a 5 track, diverse piece of work. With sounds varying from pop rock and souring anthemic tracks, with a vest of stoner rock and southern blues with a bitta glam splashed in for style.”

Focus track Pouring Rain unfurls with commanding drum hits and sultry vocals, delivered with an enthralling fusion of expression and finesse. The instrumental landscape stitches gritty guitar layers into the dynamic interplay of the vocals and rhythm, culminating into the magnetic entry of the charismatic single, Pocket Knife.

Magic Potion and 747 follow, revealing riff-driven sonic textures that collide with spirited drums and swirling basslines. Both tracks boast compelling melodies that ascend with edgy guitars and radiating fervour.

Concluding the EP is Blessings, unveiling an ethereal soundscape as the instruments inject a driving energy within a triplet feel. The diverse tonal palette is immersed in a raw and emotive sensibility, bringing a poignant closure to the record.

Previous singles off the collection have seen support from triple j, triple j Unearthed, Pilerats, Backseat Mafia, Australian Music Scene, Eat This Music, AAA Backstage, Something You Said and Starving Kids. Single Pocket Knife off the EP is also set to be featured on Made In Chelsea: Sydney (Offshoot of famous UK reality show Made In Chelsea). It has seen support from Australian community radio stations such as SYN Media, RTR FM, 4ZZZ, Three D Radio, UCFM and Gove FM.
