Brisbane / Meanjin-based Yb. is releasing his latest single Tell Me What the Cost Is today, following last night’s first play on triple j’s Good Nights. This single is the final preview of mixtape, ‘Bulletproof’ due for release on Thursday 23 November.

Following the release of cruisey, introspective singles Rollercoaster and Tired, Tell Me What the Cost Is swerves genres and expectations. It is a surge of adrenaline, a thumping, up-tempo alternative love song turned on its head: nothing lasts forever/you and me together.

“Tell Me What The Cost Is describes the fear of transactional love. Void of all spontaneity, the song takes an almost cynical approach to a classic love song as its fixation is fear. Slowly, I realised that a defensive outlook on any relationship damages it further,” said Yb. “I am constantly clashing with what my body wants because I fear getting hurt, but it’s this exact fear that holds me back from feeling unadulterated love”.

Yb. has already taken 2023 by storm after winning two QMA’s, including Emerging Artist of the Year presented by triple j Unearthed. His recent singles Rollercoaster and Tired were playlisted on Spotify’s New Music Friday AU/NZ and Indie Arrivals as well as Apple Music’s New Music Daily and Wildflower.

Yb. recently played at the Gold Coast’s SPRINGTIME Festival, and is playing at Yours and Owls, SXSW Sydney, and Someday Soon Festival this coming October followed by a headline show at The Brightside in his native Brisbane.
