Rising queer-pop newcomer Hallie (they/she) announces their debut EP ‘This Is Love’, due February 2023, and shares new single Love!

Love! is a euphoric burst of pop, paying homage to the early ’00s (complete with a record scratch imbued intro) whilst keeping one foot firmly in the present, with Hallie’s ability to craft witty, relatable lyrics and irresistible earworms’ of choruses firmly highlighted in this indie-pop suckerpunch.

Speaking on the new single, Hallie adds: “I initially wrote ‘Love!’ about my then partner, when I woke up on my period feeling irritable but was instantly comforted by the love and depth of connection we had. After finishing the writing and production with Oscar Sharah, I found new meaning in the song, and how in my current life it speaks to the platonic love surrounding me. It’s really nice to be reminded that within all the chaos and confusion of my early 20’s, there is so much support and love in friendships that often surpasses the romantic flings in my life. At the time of writing ‘Love!’ I was listening to alot of 2000’s music. Oscar and I listened to ‘Cool’ by Gwen Stefani in the studio and I loved how the main hook of the song was one lyric and that lyric felt almost personified by the energy and sonic world of the song.”

Love! is accompanied by a music video directed by Hallie themself; “I wanted to capture that platonic love and support, so I asked my closest friends if they would star in it with me. Running lines and dancing around in our lounge room felt so healing for my inner child; it felt like we were 8 again being silly and full of joy while being creative. We’re all working out who we are and what we want at this time in our early 20’s, so it’s really nice to be reminded that within all the chaos and confusion, there is so much love and we can grow and work it out together. I am so in love with my friends, and I’m just lucky they were down to be a part of the video”

Love! follows on from previous single Do It, which was added to full rotation of Triple J, as well as picking up support from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, seeing them as one of his “Next Wave” artists. Hallie has also recently hit the road in Australia, supporting Alex Lahey on their nation-wide tour and will join Teenage Dads in March 2023. With all this, and their debut EP shortly to be released, the future is undoubtedly bright for Hallie.
