Naarm’s favourite jangle rock outfit, Kitschen Boy are back and better than ever with new track, The Perfect Excuse. Following the success of their previous releases and amid mounting anticipation for their upcoming EP, Kitschen Boy delivers a poignant and introspective track that delves deep into the complexities of mental health struggles. Alongside the spellbinding, electricity-filled single comes the announcement of the bands first international venture joining fellow up-and-comers, There’s A Tuesday for an AU/NZ co-headline tour throughout April/May.
Following on from sold-out headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne and well earned support form the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, Junkee, and more, The Perfect Excuse is a further showcase of Kitschen Boy’s signature sound; synth-packed and noisy with a side of poignant lyricism. The track emerges from the depths of a depressive slump, offering a raw and honest portrayal of personal battles with self-criticism and the perpetuation of fear. Leading man, Dylan Baddeley speaks on the writing of the track; “This song comes from a place of self criticism, facetiously mocking myself for using depression and anxiety as an excuse to delay making an effort to change my circumstances and improve my life for the better. It’s the perpetuation of fear that if I push myself to get it together I won’t succeed. It centres around a choral repetition of an internal monologue telling myself I might as well not bother if I’m not gonna get it right but that sarcastically of course I’ve got the perfect excuse.”
In addition to the single release, Kitschen Boy have announced a AU/NZ co-headline tour with fellow up-and-comers, There’s A Tuesday. The tour will run from mid-April, starting in New Zealand with Australian dates extending into May. This will be the bands first international venture and a chance for fans to experience the EP live for the first time.
