There’ll be something for everybody when ARIA Award-winning singer, songwriter and raconteur Phil Jamieson brings his solo magic to stages next January, with a stripped-back acoustic show set to captivate Australia for the ‘Nobody Else’ Tour in 2024. Armed with his latest solo full length, ‘Somebody Else’, Jamieson will showcase the critically-acclaimed debut album and beyond with (nearly) nobody else but his pristine vocals and captivating tunes, visiting new and familiar locations around Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania – and an extra special performance at Shoalhaven’s Milton Theatre.
An album that seamlessly broke new ground for Jamieson, bridging his work fronting Australian alternative icons Grinspoon into an outing resonating with sharp rock and pop sensibilities, ‘Somebody Else’ spent years in motion, with Jamieson working alongside Holy Holy’s Oscar Dawson, as well as Davey Lane, Jordan Power and Ben Rosen on production to flourish his solo vision into its final form. No stranger to gigging and touring extensively, with 2023 alone finding Jamieson ticking off solo appearances, as well as performances as part of the sold out ‘White Album’ concert tour, along with fellow Aussie stalwarts Chris Cheney, Tim Rogers and Josh Pyke, Jamieson will close out this year with a sold out national Grinspoon tour supported by Private Function before turning his live gaze to a more intimate setting, with the ‘Nobody Else’ Tour set to offer a night of original music; and a raw, fun and moving peek behind the curtain with plenty of surprises in store, as Jamieson reveals, “The setlist will have rearranged songs for this particular format. After the exploration that Grinspoon have done on Easy and New Detention, I may play some deep cuts of those records. I’m also looking forward to road-testing some new material that I have been working on for my sophomore solo joint.”
Featuring offerings from ‘Somebody Else’ as well as never-before-heard solo Jamieson material and moments from the past, the stripped-back ‘Nobody Else’ Tour will ultimately offer fans a rare and unforgettable experience, with reimagined arrangements specifically designed by Jamieson for the intimate venues lined up for the tour. Fittingly also including Milton Theatre in southern New South Wales, a venue which is mentioned in the very title track of ‘Somebody Else’, the ‘Nobody Else’ Tour will span a range of venues across the country, including some old favourites for Jamieson as well as some uncharted territory, as he elaborates, “There are venues here I have never played, there are venues here that I love. It’ll be summer in Australia, and I am playing brand new music as well as stuff from 25 years ago. I love being solo. It’s a challenging space but also super rewarding.”
Hailing from Lismore and taking out triple j Unearthed’s national band competition in 1995, Grinspoon quickly took the music world by storm, releasing their groundbreaking debut album ‘Guide To Better Living’ in 1997 which would go on to spend 36 weeks in the ARIA Top 50 and wield double-platinum certification. From there, the story is the stuff of legends, with sales clocking well over half a million, multiple Top Ten charting albums, ARIA Award wins and nominations, festival appearances at Big Day Out, Homebake, Falls Festival and Splendour In The Grass, performing at the NRL Grand Final and the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony in Melbourne, and zero signs of slowing down as the group edge closer to their third decade as a band. Throughout the journey, Jamieson’s nuanced performances and songwriting prowess has only fortified, with the charismatic artist consistently evolving while also exploring new terrain along the way, including his starring role as St Jimmy in the Australian production of the Broadway musical American Idiot.
Celebrating ‘Somebody Else’ and plenty more with the ‘Nobody Else’ Tour, featuring nobody outside of Jamieson and Melbourne artist Robert Muiños appearing on the extensive run, don’t miss your chance to catch these extremely special shows next January, with Phil Jamieson as you’ve never witnessed before. “These shows will be an absolute ride,” Jamiesonconcludes. “Get there if you can x.”
